I am a Software Engineer (with specialization in Security) at Apple. Prior to Apple, I used to lead Google Chrome’s Core Infra Security team and have experience leading high performing teams. Before breaking into these “Big Tech“, I worked at a few other companies (Credit Karma, Proofpoint). I am a student of leadership and truly believe it is a continuous journey.
Over the years in my career in the Software industry I have worked at companies of different sizes and shapes. From pre-revenue start-ups (which failed eventually) to the largest company (in terms of market cap). Each company offered a unique set of cultural twists and I enjoyed most of it. While in this newsletter I am not going to talk about any specific ones, I will cover the hidden keys that unlock not just your leadership potential, but a chain reaction of positive change for everyone you influence.
Across different companies and cultures, I have worked with many organizational leaders (not just my management chain). One thing that stayed constant across organizational boundaries is the misconception about leadership. I am an avid student of leadership and truly believe a great leader can have lasting impact on individuals and change the course of an organization. Not just from a wellness of employee perspective but from productivity, growth of individuals working with them.
This is my attempt to share some insights I have learned over the years, ranging from some of the best leaders I have worked with to some of the traditional ones. The goal is to uplift the effectiveness of leadership across the industry with bite sized contents tackling specific issues from negative impacts of leading by authority to the right balance of support and feedback.
I encourage everyone to share their own experiences when a topic touches your heart, and provide actionable feedback. After all, I am no leadership god, I am in the process of learning as well. Together, let’s raise the bar and fuel innovation by providing the right level of support as leaders.
